The Hokkaido medical center (HMC) has been accredited as a regional medical care support hospital and as a home care support hospital. Our facilities have a total of 500 beds. We are an emergency care hybrid hospital that conforms to your needs and handles a wide variety of medical issues, from category 3 emergency care in hyper-acute phases to neurological diseases, chronic diseases in children, and infections. As a category 3 emergency care center the HMC has a heliport and provides year-round 24 hour support for cardiology, neurosurgery and ER cases. In addition, we also provide care for category 2 pediatrics, gastroenterology, cardiology, as well as respiratory medicine, and gynecology emergencies. We are also equipped to treat drug-resistance strains of tuberculosis and provide hemodialysis treatment. As an institution recognized as a core hospital for the Hokkaido network for intractable diseases we carry out treatments for neuromuscular diseases all over the Hokkaido island.

Category 3 emergency medical facilities are open for 24-hours, providing treatment to patients suffering from serious life-threatening injuries, as well as patients whose symptoms cannot be treated in primary or secondary emergency care facilities. There are around 230 emergency care centers in Japan, 9 of which are in the Hokkaido island. We provide primary care to patients suffering from cardiac arrests, shock, mental disturbances, respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, acute abdominal pain, suffering the effects of environmental factors (heat stroke, etc.), and multiple traumas.
